The Van Gogh Immersive Experience
Here is everything you need to know about the magic of the Van Gogh Immersive Experience.
London has so much to offer travellers. Whether the city reminds you of stunning cafes, expansive parks, fantastic architecture, bustling nightlife, or more traditional attractions such as the London Eye, this lively metropolis never leaves anyone bored. However, with that comes anxiety and feeling overwhelmed about what you must explore, especially if you don’t live in or around the area. What also doesn’t help is the fact that many attractions are seasonal.
A travel guide to London would be an endless list of opportunities and simultaneous confusions, so I am not even going to attempt that. Instead, I will highly recommend a visit to the Van Gogh Alive Immersive Experience if you are ever in the capital over the summer.
Whether you are an art expert or an ammeter, the exhibition is an experience that can be beloved by all. Much like Da Vinci, Van Gogh is a household name, and his paintings are nothing short of treasures to society. Marvelling at ‘Starry Night’ or ‘Sunflowers’ in a silent gallery is already an unforgettable experience, but imagine this exquisite art paired perfectly with the beautiful compositions of talented musicians and visual effect teams and have it dance around you in sync. Honestly, I got a little emotional.
From the moment I stepped into the massive room surrounded by vibrant screens and powerful symphony, I was immersed in a world of wonder and delight. The almost 4D-like experience of historic 2D works is enchanting and exciting. If you are anything like me and don’t fully understand the technicalities of visual art – the specific brushstrokes to the intricate use of space – you are still able to appreciate Van Gogh’s genius and state of mind. By letting go of your thoughts and focusing on the details of the display, you are moved in every sense of the word.
Completely self-taught and inspired by the impressionism and post-impressionism movements of his time, it is impressive that his art now sells for millions and leaves an impression on everyone that has the fortune to come in contact with it.
The Van Gogh Alive Immersive Experience is innovative and interactive in ways that art galleries have never done before. Timeless pieces have never been so in harmony with 21st-century technology, and the detailed display only leaves you wanting more – which is ideal because there is no time limit on how long you can stay in the gallery.
That’s not all, though. Apart from the art itself, the gallery also has a ‘Sunflower Room’ surrounded by sunflowers and mirrors, which made me feel like I was in a flower field, and of course, there was a wall of displays explaining the history and story behind each piece of art.
I loved every bit of my time at the gallery and would genuinely go back. Thinking about it gives me goosebumps, and every time I look at the pictures and videos I have saved, I feel like I am a part of it all over again.
My two recommendations or pieces of advice would be to go on a weekday because it is cheaper, and not wear black for the sake of your pictures.
Let me know in the comments if you would visit Van Gogh Alive, and if you have, what did you think?
