How To Get Over Vacation Blues
After two years of a devastating pandemic and ever-changing travel restrictions, the summer of 2022 finally brought a little normalcy to the world of great holidays and great experiences. Ignoring the fact that London airports were in absolute chaos, an endless collection of magical memories were made and many of us were blessed with a fantastic mix of blissful and exciting trips. However, with all the highs comes a few lows because the return to reality after a break is hitting harder than usual. So, how do you get over these vacation blues?
Five Tips To Get Over Vacation Blues
Plan A Buffer Event For Once You Are Home
Just because your anticipated adventure is over does not mean the fun has to be. Find yourself a nearby town to explore or book an experience to enjoy that will give you something to look forward to after the holiday comes to an end. Even getting a reservation at a restaurant you’ve been dying to eat at will keep you positively cheerful while you unpack your suitcase.
It’s fascinating how what we do in a new place we would never do in our hometowns. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with maintaining a ‘tourist mindset’ while in your everyday environments – especially if you live in a place where there is always something going on or something new to discover.
Give Yourself Time To Breathe
If your bank account is looking a little empty, why not just give yourself a day to relax and enjoy being back in your comfort zone before jumping back into your daily routine? Whenever I can travel on a Saturday and spend Sunday doing nothing other than calming my adrenaline, I always find it easier to settle into reality on Monday morning.
Exercise
In the words of Elle Woods, “exercise gives you endorphins, endorphins make you happy”. Hit the gym, take a walk, or play a sport to keep you physically occupied, which will do wonders for your mental health and mood.
Look Back On The Happy Times
Practising gratitude and taking time to replay the happy memories of your travels in your head or by looking through videos and pictures will encourage you appreciate how lucky you were to take the trip in the first place. You were able to invest in unforgettable experiences, and no one can take that away from you.
However, reminiscing about the vacation should also help you appreciate your regular life for what it is. Finding simple pleasures in our surroundings allows us to be content with the ‘mundane’ things we do and be fulfilled by them, which makes vacation blues few and far between.
Acknowledge Your Feelings
Try to maintain social connections and talk to people about what you are going through – whether it’s the people closest to you or other fellow travellers – and you will find that you’re not alone. Having vacation blues is normal, and everyone goes through it at one point or the other because no one’s life is a perfect fairy tale.

I agree with your ‘keep a tourist mindset’ tips. It’s amazing how much we take for granted that is available in our own back yard!
