Finding Purpose In Travel
Adventure is worthwhile, whether it is a month-long trip, a weekend getaway or a day trip to a nearby town. Every time you leave the comfort of daily routine and explore a new space, you will discover a paradise of exciting opportunities and experiences that will open your eyes to the ever-changing world around you. Travelling will help you re-evaluate your every day, and find what’s important, in order to lead a more fulfilled life, and therefore finding purpose in travel is important.

I have been incredibly lucky to be a part of a family that loves to travel and have explored beautiful places long before I knew I had fallen in love with this passion. However in realisation that I had caught the travelling bug, I soon used travel as a means of escape but also, a way to enrich the life I already lead by bringing my experiences back home with me.
The first trip I remember clearly is a family holiday to Egypt. I loved it so much that once home, I made a scrapbook containing everything from tickets, museum passes, pictures and information on Egyptian history (hence the obsession with world history and city-breaks). Discovering Egypt was fascinating and made my nine-year-old self especially happy when I went back to school that year and began learning about ancient civilisations.
Since then, I have been able to take my adventures from Africa to Asia and to Europe, with both friends and family, and relish in everything from beach holidays and camping trips to white-water rafting expeditions and safaris. Finding the people you love spending time with and particular environments you enjoy is crucial in finding the desire to leave your home, don’t forget that.
So, as I sit here in quarantine looking back at how much of the world I was fortunate this admire and the lasting impact each destination has had on me, I have come to realise how much travelling and exploring is a part of who I am and what I love to do. I found my purpose in travel. Hence, while it probably seems like a very strange time to start up a travel blog considering we’re in the midst of a pandemic with no end in sight, it seems like no better time to this.
I want to share my experiences and encourage others, that once it is safe to do so, to take on a journey they might not otherwise think to do and encourage you to fuel your curiosity of your surroundings. Find your purpose in travel.
Anyway, in the words of Mark Twain: “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness.”
Even if you only visit the next town over, do it. Don’t stay stuck your comfort zone because what’s life without a little discomfort and risk, but a lot of happy and exuberant memories.
It’s time to find a work-life balance.

How great to read your first post Sanika. Your childhood sounds similar to mine. We were lucky to travel a lot as a family, as my dad worked for an airline. The travel bug bit young. I love Mark Twain’s words. “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness.” We are still learning about people and places, after 25 years of living in different countries. But one thing we have learned from travel, is that we all have far more similarities than differences. Keep writing Sanika! Looking forward to reading more.
